Emotional Wellness in the Time of the Coronavirus: Bonus Episode: Coaching Podcast
How are we supposed to do this? It’s a simple question that has many of us taking our stress levels to the absolute max right now.
How am I going to reach my teachers? How can I ensure my students are getting what they need? How can I help my own children learn and grow during these uncertain times?
I’m here with my sister-in-law Stephanie Reyna who is a school counselor and a former fifth grade teacher. Stephanie is passionate about education and mental health and is here today to tell us in this Bonus Episode of Buzzing with Ms. B how to stay mentally healthy during a pandemic.
Right now, anxiety is high for students, teachers, parents – literally everyone! There are many signs of anxiety that you want to look out for in yourself as well as with your students.
Stephanie talks about the fight, flight, and freeze signs you can look out for with your students and children as well as what anxiety can look like in adults. Recognizing anxiety is a big first step in self-care so make sure you listen to the full episode to see those “warning signs.”
While this is a time of high anxiety, there are ways to lower your stress level. One way is to flip your thoughts from negative to positive. Find out how to use this simple tool by tuning into the full episode.
To find a sense of normalcy, don’t throw out the book. Look at what you are doing right now or what you would be doing and move it over to a digital format. You do not need to re-invent the wheel right now; in fact, doing so would cause more stress and anxiety.
I think my favorite part of this episode is when Stephanie talks about how to find ways for you and your students to feel “normal” by sticking to some routines. It was such good, sound advice that I know will impact your distance teaching!
During this troubling time, focusing on a few important things will help: consistency, communication, and compassion. Knowing what you can do and what you can’t is going to be a big part of getting through this. Listen to the Bonus Episode of Buzzing with Ms. B to help find ways to collaborate with others, set up your new normal, and more!
Remember you are not alone. We are going to do the best we can today. We’re going to make it. We are resilient. Happy coaching!
