Interactive Read Aloud Signs for Figurative Language

Easy to prep signs to use during read alouds. Students hold up their sign when they hear an example of the kind of figurative language listed: similes, metaphors, alliteration, and more! These signs are a fun way to engage students during an interactive read aloud! Signs can also be used to set a purpose during independent reading or a read to someone or buddy reading center.

These signs are designed to hold students accountable, grow their listening comprehension and discussion skills, and keep read aloud fun while making it purposeful! Each student (or pair of students) receives a sign. This is their purpose for listening to the read aloud. As the teacher reads, students raise their signs when they find evidence of their purpose for listening, and share their thinking using the provided speaking stems.
