**ALIGNED TO TEKS!** Mentor sentence instruction blends explicit instruction of grammar skills with hands-on sentence building and constructing. Students analyze sentences, learn new TEKS-based grammar skills, revise and create sentences following sentence structures.

This product helps students connect grammar instruction to their own writing and testing situations! Teach grammar authentically and effectively through the use of mentor sentences and a thoughtful approach to conventions instruction.

This product includes nine weeks of grammar instruction and all the tools you’ll need to make it stick! These tools have made a difference in my students’ writing! By bridging the grammatical skills in context to revision and editing in a testing format, students will learn what’s important about grammar instruction as well as how to apply it in a variety of contexts.

Week One: Simple sentence: subject, predicate, and parts of speech

Week Two: Past-Tense verbs

Week Three: Future-Tense Verbs

Week Four: Plural Nouns

Week Five: Compound Subjects

Week Six: Compound Predicates

Week Seven: Compound Sentences

Week Eight: Complex Sentences (subordinate clause first)

Week Nine: Complex Sentences (subordinate clause last)

For each week, five days of lessons are included, as well as…

Day One: Sentence strips to cut and glue into a notebook

Day Two: Grammar hunt tables to cut and glue into a notebook

Day Three: Word/phrase cards to cut out and manipulate, and a handout to practice the skill (with answer key included)

Day Four: Dictation – what do we check for?

Day Five: Sample sentences to use as models, and a three- to four- question quiz on the skill, in Texas Writing test format.
