Good Narrative Beginnings Minilessons for Google Classroom

Description

This series of eight minilessons can help you teach writing if you’re unsure of where to start! It includes video lessons and assignments for teaching narrative beginnings. It’s everything you need, from start to finish, to teach eight days of writing to your fourth and fifth graders! Just assign each day to your students in Google Classroom and you’re set! You must have signed up for G-Suite and have a Google account to use this resource.

These lessons could not be more manageable for students and parents, or easier for you to use! Just copy them using the links provided in the pdf you’ll download, assign them in Google classroom. and students can hand in their work as they complete it! You can even schedule due dates if you’d like.

The Google Forms will collect student responses for you and you can grade or check over them easily!

You will first download a .zip file to get access to the made-for-Google resources.

Eight days of minilessons

Each minilesson includes…

• a video lesson taught by me (or more than one, if the lesson is chunked for students to be successful)
• an introduction to the assignment during the video lesson
• an assignment that students can complete to demonstrate their learning

On day one of instruction, students…

• Are briefly introduced to six different types of beginnings (setting, character, onomatopoeia, dialogue, thought, and action) in a video
• Complete an interactive activity using Google Slides to identify the type and description of each beginning.

On day two of instruction, students…

• watch a video that analyzes three different types of beginnings for the important information the author needs to include
• analyze two different beginnings for these details using Google Slides

On day three of instruction, students…

• watch a video that analyzes three different types of beginnings for the important information the author needs to include
• analyze two different beginnings for these details using Google Slides

On day four of instruction, students…

• watch three short videos in which I model revising a boring beginning using a setting, character, and onomatopoeia beginning
• revise a different boring beginning in three ways using Google Forms (this is so easy to grade!)

On day five of instruction, students…

• watch three short videos in which I model revising a boring beginning using a dialogue, thought, and action beginning
• revise a different boring beginning in three ways using Google Forms (this is so easy to grade!)

On day six of instruction, students…

• watch a video that models how to brainstorm ideas for narrative writing
• brainstorm ideas and choose one using Google Slides

On day seven of instruction, students…

• watch three short videos in which I model how to use three different types of beginnings to write about the idea we chose
• use a Google Form to write three different beginnings for their idea

On day eight of instruction, students…

• watch three short videos in which I model how to use three different types of beginnings to write about the idea we chose
• use a Google Form to write three different beginnings for their idea
