Game On – Plan a Fun Family Literacy Game Night!

Looking for a way to bring your school community together, build reading excitement, and sneak in some serious literacy practice? Then it’s time to level up with Game On Family Literacy Game Night!

Inspired by classic board games, playground favorites, and fast-paced challenges, this event turns your family night into a game-filled world where reading, writing, vocabulary, fluency, and teamwork take center stage. Students and families move through ten fun literacy stations, earning points, cheering each other on, and discovering that learning is way more fun when we play together.

This event works beautifully for K–5, but you can modify cards, text levels, and challenges to best fit your students. It’s family-friendly, energy-packed, and guaranteed to get even your reluctant readers rolling the dice and reading with confidence!

🎯 Setting Up Your Game On Family Literacy Night

Setting up this event is simple and so much fun! Choose a large space like the gym, cafeteria, or even a few adjoining classrooms, and spread your stations out so families can move and play comfortably. I like to mix quieter activities (like Book Battle or Game Night partner plays) away from high-energy stations (hello, hopscotch!). Prep materials ahead of time, bundle supplies for quick grab-and-go, and assign a teacher or volunteer to each station so they can cheer families on and help as needed. A few themed touches — dice decorations, game boards, bright tablecloths — make everything feel extra special.
